Ways to Play your Film | Discs

What format(s) can I screen a film in?

Different ways to screen are available. You can source your own physical copy (DVD/Blu-ray) from your preferred retailer or rent a copy from us. If you prefer a digital copy, you can get a Download from us and use the Download Manager to playback from your laptop.

If you wish to organise a virtual screening event, you can do so by using our Virtual Screening Room (VSR).

VSR also allows you to set up a hybrid event which combines an in-person with a virtual screening.

Finally, if you have a Disney+ subscription, you can use it to screen a film you have licensed with us. For full details, view our Ways to Play your Film

Can I use my own Blu-ray/DVD copy?

Yes, you can retrieve a copy via our Download Manager service or buy your own Blu-ray/DVD.

Do you provide a DVD or Blu-ray for the films?

If you have licensed a film that's not yet available on DVD or Blu-ray, you can rent a disc from us. Please note that this is subject to availability.

The rental costs £14 excl. VAT and includes a prepaid return envelope.

I have requested a disc from Filmbankmedia. When will I receive it?

Your disc will arrive within 2-3 working days before your screening date via Royal Mail Special delivery.

Why won't the disc provided by Filmbankmedia play in my laptop?

Pre-release copies must be played through a standard DVD player and will not work on a laptop or computer due to security reasons.

Can I use a streaming platform to screen the film?

Disney+ is the only platform currently available for streaming, but only for select titles, so please check with us.

You aren’t covered for a film licence to stream on Netflix, Amazon Prime or any other platform.

Ways to Play your Film | Download

What is Download?

Download is a service developed specifically for event screening exhibitors. Using our Download Manager, you can securely download films to screen either online or offline, with optional audio/subtitles (availability varies by title).

All files are piracy-protected and will auto-delete once the licence has expired. Each download costs an additional £10 (inc. VAT) per booking.

To check if a film is available for Download, see the Notes section on the film’s page. To license a film for Download, simply email us at info@filmbankmedia.com. Learn more about Download.

How secure is Filmbankmedia's Download service?

We worked in collaboration with studios to ensure digital downloads would meet their security standards so you can rest assured your screenings are studio-compliant.

What equipment is required for Download?

Digital downloads work on most current laptops in Google's browser; 'Chrome'.

Can I play the film file using a different player?

For security reasons, downloaded film files can only be played back using our Download Manager built-in player. Playback on other players is not supported.

Can I screen Downloads offline?

Once you have downloaded your film you'll be able to use it for your screening even if your venue has no connection to the internet.

Can I show more screenings than I've booked using Download?

Ideally, please get in touch to arrange more Feature Presentations.

If not, our system will allow you to undertake these, but will warn you that additional film licence fees will be charged.

Do I have to delete film files from my computer after the screening?

Our Download Manager automatically deletes expired film bookings.

How many 'AV Test' screenings can I do?

We know how important it is for your film screening to be just right, so there is no restriction on the number of AV Test screenings.

Help, I can't see my licensed film title(s)!

Check you’re connected online and using Google Chrome to access Download Manager.

If you still can’t find the booking 48hrs before your planned screening, please contact us

What if I don't have enough memory on my computer to download the film?

HD film files are usually 1080p and take around 5-6GB of space on your computer drive. If you need to clear hard disk space, simply manually remove your film files from Download Manager before their automatic expiry date.

What is a "Feature Presentation"?

A Feature Presentation is the playback of the film in full for your audience rather than an "AV Test" screening.

What is an "AV Test" screening?

An “AV Test” screening lets you test your venue's AV setup by playing a section of the actual film file from any point.

After 5 minutes of playback, the AV test will stop, and the playhead will return to the selected start point.

Why can't I see the rest of your film catalogue in Download Manager?

Download Manager is a built-in delivery and playback service for online and offline use.

You can view our catalogue and make bookings here.

What is an online, virtual or hybrid screening?

An online or virtual screening is when a film is streamed to your audience over the internet, so they can watch remotely from their own device. A hybrid screening combines both in-person and online elements, for example, hosting a physical event in a venue while also making the film available to stream remotely for those who cannot attend in person. Learn more about our online screening options.

How much does the Virtual Screening Room cost on top of the licence fee?

Virtual Screening Room costs are based on the audience size. Each set of 10 audience members costs £2.50 excl. VAT and sold in blocks of 10. For example, an audience of 45 people will cost £12.50 exc. VAT.

How much is a film licence if using the Virtual Screening Room?

The film licence cost is separate from the screening medium and subject to the same pricing as an in-person event.

How many virtual screenings does a film licence cover?

Each Virtual Screening Room is a unique scheduled event and priced independently.

Can the screening organiser brand the Virtual Screening Room?

You can name your Virtual Screening Room to show at the top of the page but the branding, including colourways and logos, can’t be changed.

Can I choose a start time for my film screening?

Yes, you can set your preferred start time. Your Virtual Screening Room will open two hours before then so that your audience can test their AV setup.

Can I pause the film?

To recreate the shared experience of conventional screening, the film starts at the same time for all audience members and plays all the way through to the end. This means the film can't be paused by individual audience members.

Can an attendee pause the film if they need to leave the Virtual Screening Room?

To recreate the shared experience of watching a film together, Virtual Screening Room events are synchronised. An individual user therefore can’t pause their stream.

Can my audience members watch on a TV screen?

Yes, your audience can output your stream to TV using an HDMI cable. Casting devices are not supported due to security requirements.

How can audience members view the film full-screen?

Hover over the playback window to see the controls and click the right-hand button showing four corners. If the chat function is active for your Virtual Screening Room, the pane will be hidden.

If your audience want to continue participating in the chat (where available), they can use the same credentials to join with a second screen such as a phone or tablet. (Please note: the film will only be shown on the first device using credentials.)

Can my audience members watch on their phones?

We don't support film playback on phones or tablets. If the chat feature is enabled for your Virtual Screening Room, audience members can log in on their phones or tablets to chat with other members.

Which browser should audience members use?

Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge are all fine. We don't support Internet Explorer.

How will I get login credentials for my booking?

We'll email these as an attachment to the email address you provided when booking.

How do my audience members access their Virtual Screening Room?

They simply need to login at vsr.filmbankconnect.com with the secure credentials supplied.

How do my audience members get their credentials?

We will supply the credentials directly to you as the exhibitor to then send on to your audience.

How early before the screening start time can the audience access the Virtual Screening Room?

Your Virtual Screening Room opens two hours before the start time chosen when booking. Your audience can use this time to chat and test their AV setup.

What if I need to change my audience size before the film screening?

You can increase your audience size up to 24 hrs before your event in your account in the Screening Manager. Because valid credentials are created at the time of booking, the number can’t be reduced. If you‘ve made an error, please cancel the event booking and make a new one.

What if I need help during my Virtual Screening Room event?

To keep our Virtual Screening Room service at such a competitive price point, we’re unable to provide live technical support.

However, once you’ve booked, we’ll send our handy user guide packed with troubleshooting tips.

In case your event can’t go ahead due to system failure, please get in touch.
