Synopsis:

An act of teenage rebellion blossoms into true love in this provocative romantic drama. Nicole Oakley (Kirsten Dunst) is the troubled daughter of a wealthy congressman (Bruce Davison). Attending public school in the upscale community of Pacific Palisades, Nicole is unhappy in her pampered life. As an act of defiance, she makes a play for Carlos Nuñez (Jay Hernandez), a serious straight-A student who takes a two-hour bus ride each morning from east LA to attend Nicole’s prestigious suburban school. Determined to escape from the barrio via a good education, Carlos at first seems to be an unlikely romantic prospect for the willful Nicole, but, as the two teens spend time together, they gradually recognize their mutual vulnerability, and fall deeply in love. Unfortunately, Nicole's self-destructive behavior soon threatens Carlos' ambitions for a better life, leading to an emotional confrontation. A testament to the power and intensity of first love, this is ultimately the tale of two young but damaged souls and their attempt to heal each other. © Touchstone Pictures
